Geneious R8 and earlier will not work on MacOS High Sierra

Geneious R8 or earlier require Java 6.  This version of Java is no longer supported by Apple for MacOS Sierra (10.12) or High Sierra (10.13).  Changes made in High Sierra have broken applications that require Java 6.

Geneious versions R8 and earlier are no longer under support and no future patches will be issued.

MacOS users who wish to use Geneious R8 or earlier should not upgrade to MacOS High Sierra.

If MacOS users choose to use High Sierra then they will need to upgrade to the latest version of Geneious.

You can install THIS https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US (This will install Java 6 on Sierra/HighSierra) and Geneious 8 will work on Sierra and High Sierra. Tested. I've been using Geneious 8 on Sierra about 1 year. No issues. So, people don't have to upgrade to new Geneious.

You are correct that this works on Sierra. However, we've tested it on High Sierra and it still crashes unfortunately.

Possibly, but up to date I did not experience any problems (never with Sierra and as long as High Sierra is available). Works great and I have to add: Geneious is amazing software! Thank you!

I've installed Java 6 on my macbook pro with High Sierra, and Geneious 8.1.9 still crashes regularly, so this appears to no longer be an option.
